We spoke to a tech company called TechQuarters. They are an IT support provider London businesses use for managing their technology stack, but they know a fair bit about technology across the board. Below are their picks for the most useful gadgets to have in your home.
1. Cordless Drill
Maintaining a home often means doing little jobs around the house – things like putting up shelves, or repairing a cupboard door – and you want to be able to get those things done quickly, which is why having a cordless drill is a great idea.
If you don’t have one of these tools yourself, you will need to rely on someone else – a family member, a friend, or possibly a professional handyman – which will mean you have to wait to get whatever the job is done. Owning a cordless drill will cut out the middle man and ensure you never have to wait to get a little DIY job done.
2. Cordless Stick Vacuum
Vacuum cleaning is another chore that many people can’t stand, and that is often because lugging around a heavy vacuum cleaner, and navigating around the cord adds additional inconveniences to the whole thing.
In recent years, cordless vacuums have become more and more powerful; and as for design, vacuums have become smaller, lighter, and more maneuverable. The cordless stick vacuum is the culmination of this.

When installing solar panels, it is important to also have a high-quality solar converter. Solar panels generate Direct Current (DC); this type of electricity is unsafe for homes, which use Alternating Current (AC). A solar converter will ensure that the energy produced by your panels will be converted into the safe AC electricity to be used in your home.
5. Inverter Generator
Sometimes an emergency scenario means you don’t have access to the electrical grid that normally powers your home. In that situation, it can be very handy to have a generator on hand to provide temporary energy to your phone line and appliances.
Generators historically weren’t massively efficient. Because the motor in them needed to be running at a consistent speed. Regardless of how much energy was being used. An Inverter Generator, on the other hand, is much more efficient. These types of generators convert the energy it produces from AC to DC, and then back into AC.
This may seem redundant, but the conversion actually helps stabilised the current. And also means that the generator can operate at variable speeds, slowing down.
